This terrace of three storey courtyard/row houses, proposed for high density areas, shows how variations can be created whilst using the same basic building form. Set back terraces, projecting balconies, variations in window and door openings, materials and colours effectively help to create dwellings with individual characters.
Each plot is narrow but deep. This creates design challenges. The courtyard proposed at the centre of each house plan separates the private bedroom wing (to the rear) from the public living areas (to the front). It allows for good levels of natural light and ventilation to be provided to all rooms. It also provides private external space in built up areas.
