The concept behind the collapsible beach home is to find a building type that could respond effectively to exposed locations, in particular storm surges experienced on the coast. In storm conditions or when the house is unoccupied it simply folds down.
The enclosed form is organic and the external deck rectilinear. The roof over the living accommodation opens up by use of a series of different sized louvered shutters. A version of this design has been adapted to create a design for a beach café.
