This project investigates the grouping of different sized apartments and the creation of a family of apartment types and sizes. In this case a block of 8 and another of 12, hence the project’s title. Each apartment has a fixed central core for the services (bathrooms, kitchens etc.) with more flexible living space around it.
Sliding walls, folding furniture etc. allow for the configuration of each apartment to change to meet the occupant’s needs. In the larger apartment for instance, the occupant can, by the repositioning of an internal wall, create a larger living area for entertaining or a separate bedroom or study. During the day, the bed in the bedroom of the smallest unit is folded up, allowing the dividing wall with the living area to be repositioned to minimise the size of the bedroom whilst maximising the size of the living area.
Each apartment has a private amenity space in the form of a terrace or balcony.
